Itinerary:

Day 1
On arrival you will be met and transferred to the Holiday Inn Nairobi, or similar, for overnight on a bed and breakfast basis
.
Day 2-3
This morning you will be collected from your hotel and transferred to Wilson Airport for your flight to Buffalo Springs. The flight will take you close to the spectacular snowcapped peaks of Mount Kenya and over the lush plains of the Laikipia Plateau, home to one of the last great unfenced wildlife populations in Africa. After a 1 hour 15 minute flight, you will land in the desert wilderness of Buffalo Springs, where one of our four-wheel drive vehicles will be waiting to drive you to Samburu Intrepids tented camp. After checking into your riverside tent, you'll have lunch and a short siesta before heading back for the plains - and a variety of close encounters with Samburu's unique and endangered wildlife. Samburu is famous as being home to the rare 'northern species' of Beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra, Somali ostrich and the graceful giraffe-necked generuk antelope.
The acclaimed Adventurers' Club at Samburu Intrepids will introduce your children to a host of unusual species in the safety of the camp grounds, including the alternative 'small five' of leopard tortoise, elephant shrew, buffalo weaver, lion ant and rhinoceros beetle. Our qualified team of naturalists are assisted by a highly trained children's animator, who is responsible for the care and wellbeing of younger Adventurers. The Adventurers' Club is dedicated to providing a lasting natural education for teenagers and school groups allowing the adults to enjoy their holiday too! For families, we've a range of thrilling activities, including camel walks, treks up sacred Mount Ololokwe and trips to neighbouring Samburu communities, where the pastoralist way of life has remained unchanged for centuries.
Day 4-5
From Samburu we've arranged a civilised noontime departure for the spectacular 45 minute flight south to the bird-fringed shores of Lake Naivasha. The flight will take you over the lush slopes of the Aberdare Mountains, where ancient rainforests and bamboo groves are divided by meandering streams and towering waterfalls, before you descend into the ethereal expanse of the world's largest valley. Landing at our own airstrip, we'll take you straight to the lodge for lunch, followed by an afternoon at leisure on the links of Kenya's most spectacular championship golf course, playing tennis, or lounging by one of the world's most panoramic swimming pools. These two days offer a host of unique activities centred on the string of lakes that line the Rift Valley - Nakuru, Elementeita, Bogoria and Baringo - home to bubbling steam vents, kudu and other antelope, and the greatest diversity of waterbirds on the planet. Closer to home, there are horseback trails through the ancient Eburu Forest, you can walk among the game of the protected sanctuaries at Hell's Gate and Crater Lake, or fish for bass among the hippos and otters on Lake Naivasha. For history buffs, there's a host of evocative trips down memory lane, including the 'gin palaces' where the likes of Lord Errol and Lady Diana Dalamere gambolled away their Happy Valley days, and the lush lawns of Elsemere, where Joy Adamson lived out her later years after releasing the famous Born Free lions. And all this within a stone's throw of the Great Rift Valley Lodge, where our stunning, split-level guestrooms offer some of the latest luxuries on the edge of the oldest landscape known to man. Adventurers' Club activities included for children.

Day 6-7
After lunch on the sixth day, we'll take you south on a 50 minute flight into the heart of the world's most famous game reserve. Passing over the lush forest of the Mau Escarpment and the sprawling wheat farms of Narok, your plane will descent into a natural Eden, where before you've even landed you'll begin to see the huge herds of elephant, buffalo, zebra and antelope that make the Maasai Mara the world's greatest living spectacle. Mara Intrepids is situated on the banks of the Talek River in the heart of this great wilderness, where you're very likely to see wild animals from your own balcony. But the real aim of the game here is a proper wilderness immersion, and you'll be allocated your own highly trained guide to guide you on as many as three game drives each day. Game drives in the Mara's rolling hills, forests and grassy plains are always different - sometimes sitting amid a hundred-strong herd of elephant, other times tiptoeing past a pride of lions on a kill. The rains in March have nurtured the Mara's grasslands, providing plenty of food for its millions of grazers - and plenty of prey for its prowling predators. Our highly trained children's guides will take your young 'Adventurers' on a variety of educational excursions in the safety of our camp grounds.
Day 8
On the eighth day we'll fly you back to Nairobi. From Wilson Airport you will be taken to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your return flight

Kenya: Experience Kenya with Heritage Hotels and the Intrepid Safari Company

Kenya is the most popular destination for safaris in the world. Roughly the size of Texas, it is famous for its 'Out of Africa' scenic beauty, diverse cultures and prolific wildlife. The coastline and tropical beaches offers solitude and classic Swahili beauty as well.

The magnitude and diversity of wildlife is the prime attraction of Kenya safaris, and travelers can experience this in some of Africa’s most well known national parks including the Masai Mara, Samburu and the Great Rift Valley.

A safari in Kenya offers a mosaic of different cultures and traditions. The people have the natural ability to make every traveler feel at home - 'Karibu' a Swahili word meaning welcome is often heard. Heritage, providing the warmest hospitality in East Africa for years, offers a collection of world-class luxury safari lodges and classic tented camps, including:
Heritage_mara_explorer_tent

* Mara Explorer – Luxury in the Wild: Opened in early 2001, Mara Explorer has elevated the art of the African safari to spectacular new heights. This exclusive five-star camp, situated on a thickly forested river in the middle of the Maasai Mara reserve, offers guests the ultimate wilderness retreat, where you can watch elephants or giraffes drinking from the privacy of your verandah – or from your own outdoor Victorian bathtub! Situated in the heart of the reserve, Explorer enjoys prime views of the spectacular wildebeest migration between June and September, and some of the world’s most rewarding Big Cat sightings during the remainder of the year.

* Mara Intrepids – Pioneer of the Intrepid Safari: Welcome to Mara Intrepids – the most talked about destination in the world’s most talked about wilderness. Sitting above a sweeping bend in the Talek River, at the confluence of the Maasai Mara’s four game-viewing areas, the camp enjoys one of the most spectacular locations in the entire Mara ecosystem. Intrepids is a short drive from the Mara River, where up to one-and-a-half million wildebeest and zebra make their perilous migration crossing every July and August. The camp itself is divided into four distinct areas, with separate dining areas and ‘mess tents’ ensuring exclusivity for larger groups travelling together. An Intrepids safari offers a unique game-viewing adventure, including three daily game drives with our experienced guides, educational outings with our famous Adventurers’ Club, and trips to Maasai villages where we support several community development projects.

Cat's Cradle Big Cat Sightings

* Samburu Intrepids – The Ultimate Desert Oasis: Samburu Intrepids is renowned as a pioneer of luxury camping in one of the world’s last truly great wilderness areas. Situated on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River in the arid heart of Samburu National Reserve, Samburu Intrepids looks out over riverbanks where herds of elephant, buffalo and zebra come daily to drink – together with the rarer ‘northern species’ of reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx and long-necked gerenuk antelope. Samburu Intrepids will show you this dramatic wilderness from a world of fascinating perspectives: through stirring early morning game drives, walking safaris with skilled Samburu guides, sedate camel rides, and raft trips when the river is high. Our acclaimed Adventurers’ Club offers a uniquely educational safari for children of all ages, under the expert guidance of Kenya’s most famous Samburu guide, Tom Lmakiya Lesarge.

* Kipungani – A Place of Perfect Peace: Perched on the edge of Kipungani Bay, where the protected mangroves of Kipungani Creek meet the end of a deserted 12-kilometre beach on the southwestern tip of Lamu Island, Kipungani is the ultimate dream destination for those seeking a true desert-island holiday. As well as all the usual aspects of coastal relaxation – sun, sand, sea-sports and spectacular seafood – Kipungani offers a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in a coastal culture unchanged for centuries. The property has an extremely close bond with the people of neighbouring Kipungani Village, who will show you their ancient boat-building and mat-weaving techniques, take you fishing or prawn-netting in the remote Dadori Nature Reserve, or show you their model education and health facilities – all built with the support of Kipungani and her guests.

* Siana Springs Intrepids – Lifeblood of the Eastern Mara: Situated at the base of the Ngama Hills, on the eastern edge of the Maasai Mara Reserve, Siana Springs occupies a lush indigenous forest watered by the largest natural springs in the Mara ecosystem – ‘Siana’ or ‘the plentiful’ springs in Maa. The camp’s location in the heart of the Siana Group Ranch offers guests unique opportunities for thrilling walking safaris, night drives and fly-camping along the seasonal streams beneath the Ngama Hills, while our hosts will also treat you to uniquely uncontrived interpretive tours of their manyattas, cattle bomas, cultural and community facilities.

* Great Rift Valley Lodge – Rooms with a View: Perched on the panoramic shoulder of the Eburu Escarpment, overlooking the sparkling waters of Lake Naivasha and the sweeping floor of the world’s largest valley, the Great Rift Valley Lodge & Golf Resort enjoys one of the most spectacular views in all of Africa. Just one-and-a-half hours’ drive from Nairobi (or a 30-minute flight to our own airstrip), the lodge is the perfect stopover on a safari to the Maasai Mara or the sights of western Kenya. As well as Kenya’s newest and most stunning championship golf course, the lodge offers exciting walking and horse-riding safaris in the Eburu forests, and mesmerizing ‘trips back in time’ along a string of volcanic lakes blessed with the world’s most prolific and diverse birdlife.
